Amazon BSR Explained

What Best Seller Rank means, how to read it, and what BSR tells you about a book's real sales performance.

What Amazon BSR tells you

Amazon BSR (Best Sellers Rank) is the number that shows how a book is selling right now relative to everything else in its store. A lower number means more recent sales. It updates hourly, drops fast when sales stop, and it's the closest thing Amazon gives you to a public sales signal.

Once you can read BSR, you can answer the questions that matter: is this niche worth entering, how many copies is a competitor moving, and is my own rank climbing or sliding. The catch is that BSR is relative and category-specific, so a good number in Romance looks nothing like a good number in a small non-fiction niche.

The guides here explain what BSR means, what counts as good, and how to turn a rank into a rough sales estimate. Because the number moves every hour, one check tells you little. Our daily book monitoring tracks BSR over time and alerts you when it shifts, so you see the trend instead of a single random snapshot.
