Estimating Monthly Revenue from Your BSR

The Question This Tool Answers

Before you commit to 90 days of focused effort to climb the rankings, it helps to know what that target ranking would actually be worth. "I want to get to BSR #15,000" is more motivating when you know that BSR #15,000 translates to roughly $800 per month at your current price point.

The Rank-Revenue Estimator lets you plug in any BSR scenario and see the estimated monthly royalty — so you can decide whether a ranking goal is worth the investment of time and money before you start working toward it.

How to Use It

You have two ways to enter your book's details:

  • Select from your books — if you've added books to monitoring, you can select one from the dropdown and the fields pre-fill with your current price and page count.
  • Enter manually — if you haven't added a book yet, or want to model a hypothetical book, just enter the values directly.

Fill in these four inputs:

BSR

The target Best Sellers Rank you want to model. Try a few different numbers to compare scenarios — e.g. 5,000 vs. 15,000 vs. 50,000.

Price ($)

Your book's current Kindle sale price. This affects your royalty per sale, which affects total monthly revenue at any given BSR.

KENP Page Count

Your Kindle Edition Normalized Page count — find it in your KDP Reports under "KENP Read." If you're not sure, the default is 250. This only affects the estimate if your book is KU enrolled.

KU Enrolled

Check this if your book is in Kindle Unlimited. KU enrollment adds estimated page-read royalties to the total, which can significantly increase the revenue estimate for longer books.

Reading Your Estimate

The tool shows your estimated monthly royalty based on the BSR you entered. The most useful way to use it: model multiple scenarios.

For example: enter BSR 5,000, then 15,000, then 50,000 in three separate estimates. The difference shows you how much more revenue a significant rank improvement would generate — and whether the delta justifies the effort.

Important Disclaimer

These are estimates based on publicly available BSR-to-sales models. Actual revenue depends on:

  • Your specific genre and category (romance and self-help sell at different rates than the averages)
  • Seasonality (holiday and back-to-school periods affect sales in many niches)
  • KU enrollment and current KENP rate (Amazon adjusts the per-page KU rate monthly)
  • Price point relative to your category's average

Use the estimates as directional guidance when setting goals — not as financial projections. The tool itself shows this disclaimer prominently. A result of "~$750/month at BSR #12,000" means "likely in this ballpark" — not a guarantee.

How This Connects to Other Tools

The Revenue Estimator works best as a planning companion to the 90-Day Roadmap:

  1. Use the Revenue Estimator to decide your BSR goal — pick a target ranking that represents meaningful monthly revenue improvement
  2. Enter that goal into the 90-Day Roadmap — it builds your action plan to get there
  3. Use Rank Momentum to monitor whether your BSR is moving toward that target over time
