Getting Started with PublishRank

What PublishRank Does

PublishRank shows you what Amazon sees about your book — and exactly what to fix to rank higher and sell more copies. It does this using the same publicly available data that Amazon uses to decide which books to surface in search results.

Most KDP authors write a great book and then guess at what to do next. PublishRank replaces the guessing with data: real keyword scores, real competitor analysis, real review targets based on the books actually ranking in your category right now.

The Onboarding Checklist

While you're on your trial, your Dashboard shows a four-step onboarding checklist with a progress bar. Each step ticks itself off automatically as you complete it — you never mark anything by hand — and the whole checklist disappears once all four are done. Follow it in order and you'll go from "I just signed up" to "I have a personalised action plan" in under 15 minutes.

  1. 1

Add your first book to monitoring

Click Add My Book on the Dashboard and enter your Amazon ASIN. PublishRank pulls your title, cover image, and current Best Sellers Rank automatically, and starts tracking it daily. This takes about 10 seconds.

  2. 2

    Audit your listing

Run the Listing Optimizer to score your title, subtitle, description, and backend keywords, and get a ranked list of concrete fixes — the highest-impact changes first.

  3. 3

    See your competitiveness score

See how your book stacks up against the top 10 in your category, and exactly which dimension is holding your score back the most.

  4. 4

    Generate your 90-Day Roadmap

Build a personalised week-by-week action plan directly from your real book data — not generic advice, but specific tasks based on what your book needs to move up in rankings.

Your First Action: Adding Your ASIN

Click the orange Add My Book button on your Dashboard. You'll be asked for your ASIN — Amazon Standard Identification Number — a 10-character code like B0GJN8NTGB.

Here's how to find it:

  • KDP Dashboard: Log in at kdp.amazon.com → Manage Your Content → look for the ASIN column next to your book title.
  • Amazon book page URL: Your book's Amazon URL contains /dp/XXXXXXXXXX/ — that 10-character code is your ASIN.
  • Amazon product details: Scroll to "Product Details" on your book's Amazon page. ASIN is listed there.

Each format of your book (Kindle ebook, paperback, hardcover) has its own ASIN and its own BSR. Start with the format you want to focus on first.

What Happens After You Add Your Book

Once added, PublishRank begins monitoring your book's BSR (Best Sellers Rank) every day. Your Book Monitoring dashboard supports up to 50 books — so you can track your own titles alongside competitor books you want to benchmark against.

Rank Momentum — the tool that shows whether your BSR is improving, holding steady, or declining — needs 7 days of daily data before it can display your trajectory. Add your book today and it'll be ready in a week.

Where to Go Next
