What Is an ASIN?

ASIN stands for Amazon Standard Identification Number. It's a 10-character code (letters and numbers) that Amazon assigns to every product in its catalogue — including every book. It looks like this: B0GJN8NTGB.

Every book on Amazon has an ASIN. If your book has multiple formats (Kindle ebook, paperback, hardcover, audiobook), each format has its own separate ASIN and its own separate BSR. Make sure you use the ASIN for the specific edition you want to track.

How to Find Your ASIN

There are three easy ways. Use whichever is fastest for you.

1 Method 1 — KDP Dashboard

  1. Log into kdp.amazon.com
  2. Click Manage Your Content and Devices (or go directly to your KDP Bookshelf)
  3. Find your book in the list — the ASIN is shown in the column next to the title

2 Method 2 — Amazon Book Page URL

  1. Go to your book's page on Amazon.com
  2. Look at the URL in your browser. It contains /dp/XXXXXXXXXX/
  3. That 10-character string after /dp/ is your ASIN

3 Method 3 — Amazon Product Details Section

  1. Go to your book's page on Amazon.com
  2. Scroll down to the Product Details section (below the description)
  3. Look for the row labeled ASIN — the value next to it is your ASIN

Adding Your Book in PublishRank

  1. 1

Go to your Dashboard or the Book Monitoring page

  2. 2

Click the orange Add My Book or + Add Book button

  3. 3

Paste your ASIN into the field (e.g. B0GJN8NTGB). You can also paste a full Amazon product page URL — PublishRank will extract the ASIN automatically

  4. 4

    Click Add

  5. 5

PublishRank verifies the ASIN, pulls your book's title and cover from Amazon, and begins daily BSR monitoring. This takes about 5–10 seconds.

What Happens Next

Your book appears on the Book Monitoring dashboard immediately. BSR tracking starts today — you'll see your first reading within 24 hours.

Rank Momentum — the tool that shows BSR trend direction — needs at least 7 days of data before it activates. Add your book today and check back in a week.

Once your book is added, your ASIN is available across all other PublishRank tools. You can enter it directly in Keyword Gap Map, Competitiveness Score, Review Threshold, and the 90-Day Roadmap without typing it out again.

FAQ

Can I add multiple books?

Yes — up to 50 books per account. This can be your own titles, competitor books you want to benchmark, or books you're researching before publishing.

What if my ASIN doesn't work?

Make sure it's exactly 10 characters and starts with "B". Ebook and print editions have different ASINs — use the one for the specific format you want to track. If the book was very recently published, wait a few hours for Amazon's systems to update before trying again.

I added the wrong ASIN — how do I fix it?

Go to Book Monitoring, find the incorrectly added book, and use the delete option. Then add the correct ASIN. Your monitoring history for the old entry will not carry over.

My book isn't published yet — can I add it?

No. PublishRank can only monitor books that are live on Amazon with an active ASIN and a product page. Pre-publication books don't have an Amazon listing to scrape yet.
